Travel Smart: How to book a ferry

Booking your Nassau to Current ferry tickets

Getting your tickets is simple — enter your departure port, arrival port, and preferred travel date to see every fare and sailing available. From there, you can compare alternative routes and departure times to land on the best option for your trip.

Watch for early-bird pricing and flexible ticket formats, such as upgrades or flexi-fares that allow later changes or cancellations. Enter your details accurately, including passenger count and vehicle information, to keep your booking process smooth.

Collecting your ferry tickets from Nassau port

A confirmation email lands in your inbox the moment your booking is finalised. How your boarding pass gets issued from there depends on the specific ferry operator.

Certain operators release your boarding pass right after booking; others want you to check in once you reach the port. Where available, the Direct Ferries app lets you check in online ahead of time.

Ticket desks sit near the ferry terminal in most cases. Give yourself extra time before departure to collect your tickets and complete check-in without stress.

You'll need to present your confirmation email plus valid photo ID — a passport or identity card — at check-in. Pet owners should bring vaccination and insurance paperwork, and anyone using a resident discount should have proof of address on hand.

Why are there no ferries available on the date I want to travel?

A handful of reasons can explain the lack of departures from Nassau to Current on your selected date — timetable adjustments, sold-out sailings, or a seasonal gap are the usual culprits. Try a different date or browse other routes through our Route & Port finder.

When is the best time to book a ferry to Current?

Booking your Nassau to Current ferry early usually pays off, both in terms of price and choice — earlier bookings tend to unlock better fares and more departure and cabin options.

Current Guide

Current Ferry Port

Found on the tip of North Eleuthera, an island just a few miles across the Atlantic from the Bahaman capital city of Nassau, is the quaint village of Current. This tiny settlement sits at the end of a hilly mainland peninsula, the tip of which overlooks the cerulean waters of the Current Cut strait. Across this narrow section of sea is the largely uninhabited Current Island that points westwards on rugged land shaped like the blade of a spear. The port of Current is located to the south of the village. It is a small facility consisting of nothing more than a check-in booth and an undercover waiting area that can be found just a few steps from the shore and the concrete docking area. Although there is no public transport system on Eleuthera, the port and village is fed by the extensive Queen’s Highway covering the entire length of the island. Only one passenger service currently operates from the port. A Bahamas Ferries line sails to the city of Nassau on the Bahaman island of New Providence a couple of times a week. It’s a short journey that takes passengers through the Current Cut and across the glittering sapphire surface of the North Atlantic Ocean.
