Valverde Guide

Valverde is a municipality in the Canary Islands in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The town, which is located on the north east coast of the island of El Hierro, is the smallest capital in the Canary Islands and the only one that lies on the coast. The city's climate, which is generally mild all year round and where summers are warm and winters are cold, make it a popular destination for tourists. That said, the city doesn't have huge amounts to offer and sits on top of a windy mountain ridge that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The town's buildings are low and whitewashed and aren't as pretty as those found in some of the other capitals in the Canary Islands. However, on a clear day there are some wonderful views to be had from the town and on the occasional day it is possible to see Tenerife's El Teide and La Gomera from the town centre.

From the city's port, ferries operate to Los Cristianos and San Sebastian de la Gomera.

San Sebastian de la Gomera Guide

The Spanish city of San Sebastian de la Gomera is the capital city of the island of La Gomera, in the Canary Islands. Due to its historical links with the discovery of America it is also known as "Isla Colombina". The city developed around a natural bay and still visible today, and of interest with tourists, are many preserved monuments such as the Church of La Asuncion, the Pozo de la Aguada and the Torre del Conde (The Tower of the Count). Tourist facilities in the city are excellent and include a wide range of leisure facilities, especially a number of different water based sports in the port area of the city.

Head inland and there are many hiking and cycling trails to enjoy and are a great way to explore the mountainous terrain of the island along with some of its natural treasures such as the Majona Nature Reserve and the National Park of Garajonay.

As well as numerous daily crossings to the neighbouring island of Tenerife, the port also offers trips around the island by catamaran.
