Terracina is a town and commune of the province of Latina, in the south of the Lazio region, Italy, located halfway between Rome and Naples. Situated at the only point where the Volscian Hills reach the Tyrrhenian Sea, Terracina occupies a position of notable strategic importance and was an important port on the Roman Appian Way. Nowadays, the modern town of Terracina has become a pleasant seaside resort that spreads out on the plain below the hills and along the wide sandy beach, attracting tonnes of visitors during the summer months. Although the summer sea and sand are the towns main attractions, Terracina’s historical and cultural charm lies within the old part of the town. The heart of historical Terracina lies uphill from a narrow sloping hill where you’ll find the pretty Piazza del Municipo which contains paving stones from the Roman Forum, the Cathedral, the town council, the archaeological museum and a crumbling archway.
Ponza is the largest island of the Italian Pontine Islands archipelago, resting in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Many ferry routes depart the port, heading to other coastal resorts along the coast of Italy, and tey range between 50 minutes and three hours.
