Its location on the northern coast makes it the ideal setting for transport links with Turkey, with the Turkish mainland only forty miles away. The castle has been overlooking the harbour for the past four and a half centuries; there have been extensions and enlargements over the decades to maintain its stature. The harbour is well located within the town; copious restaurants and bars reside near there, making it one of the liveliest and energetic parts of Kyrenia.
