About Baja California Sur

Baja California Sur is the youngest and second smallest state by population in Mexico, situated in the northwest.

Making up the southern half of the Baja California Peninsula, it boasts of one of Latin America’s largest single protected areas, the El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve, which includes whale calving sites and spectacular pre-Hispanic rock art pieces.

The capital, La Paz is the commercial and political hub, characterised by a stunning collection of beaches and vibrant town squares lined with coconut palms. Other notable sights include the beautiful rock formation of Land’s End and the Espiritu Santo, a network of small coves with crystalline waters offering excellent snorkelling and kayaking opportunities.

From La Paz, there are domestic ferry routes available to a couple of destinations across the Gulf of California to the Mexican mainland. Daily sailings are provided to Topolobampo, whereas slightly less frequent crossings are available to Mazatlan.

About Mexico

Mexico is a North American country sandwiched between the United States to the north and Central America to the southeast.

As a geographically diverse nation serving gastronomic delights, a flurry of festivals and iconic Aztec structures, Mexico captivates all the human senses. So much so, it entices over thirty million foreign visitors each year, offering jungle treks, shopping in trendy cities, divulging into deep-rooted traditions and tanning on gorgeous beaches.

Tapping into Mexico’s long history is made easy by the immense series of Mesoamerican pyramids and Maya architecture, most notably Palenque and Chichen Itza. Mexico City, the sprawling capital, has the most museums of any metropolis in the world and a flourishing culinary scene.

Using ferries is an excellent way of reaching mainland Mexico from the Baja California Sur peninsula off the west coast, saving you days of driving. You can sail to Mazatlán, one of Mexico’s most celebrated beach destinations, and to the port town of Topolobampo.
