About Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island, Australia’s third largest landmass, lies just off the coast of South Australia, southwest of Adelaide.

Affectionately referred to as an outdoor zoo, Kangaroo Island is home to not only its namesake animal, but a huge amount of wildlife including echidnas, seals, dolphins and multiple fascinating bird species. It’s also blessed with a stunning, five hundred kilometre coastline with pristine beaches and charming local wineries.

Rock lobster fishing and tourism have helped sustain Kangaroo and it boasts numerous reserves, introduced to protect the natural vegetation and native animals, most notably the Flinders Chase National Park towards the west coast.

With over a hundred thousand visitors each year, Kangaroo Island is a popular excursion from the mainland. Multiple ferry crossings are provided every day from Cape Jervis, roughly one hundred kilometres south of Adelaide, lasting under an hour.
