Port Denarua is on a small private island in the northwest corner of Fiji’s mainland, Viti Levu. It is the main gateway to some of the beautiful islets along the northwest coast and is just twenty minutes from Nadi International Airport by car. It is considered the island’s finest marina facility, offering restaurants, a spa, a large supermarket and a wide selection of shops. You can also book tours and activities inside the terminal. There are a number of luxurious hotels on Denarau Island where you can relax overnight before your journey as well.
The peculiarly named Castaway Island, known by locals as Qalito, is a remote island resort to the west of Fiji and one of the many landmasses that make up the volcanic Mamanuca Islands archipelago. Surrounded by thriving coral reefs that can be seen below the shimmering shallows of the Pacific Ocean, this uninhabited isle is a tropical utopia complete with long stretches of sandy white beaches and swathes of lush palm-tree forests that bathe in the warm glow of the equatorial sun. The port of Castaway Island is nothing more than a designated section of the south-facing beach, just a few steps from the island resort. As such the only facilities are those found within the resort itself, including numerous restaurants, bars and an information point offering advice about the journey to and from the island. There are no civic settlements or roads on Castaway Island either, meaning that travelling to the port can only be managed on foot. Currently only one service leaves from Castaway Island. A fast South Sea Cruises ferry travels east to the town of Denarau on mainland Fiji a number of times per day, a service that sails around the bottom of the island before skimming across the pristine surface of the South Pacific.
