Batam Centre Guide

Batam Centre is the main port for the island, region and city of Batam. The island is the closest part of Indonesia to neighbouring Singapore, with the city of Batam being the largest in the Riau Islands Province. There are thirty six daily crossings from the port to HarbourFront Centre in Singapore.

What’s there to do in Batam?
The island is a hotspot for thrill seekers, especially those seeking fun on the water. Jet skiing, windsurfing and kayaks are popular choices but there is also parasailing for those who want to see the beautiful Indonesian island from the skies. The area is full of beautiful architecture, from the serene Tua Pek Kong Temple, the Masjid Raja Grand Mosque, to capturing the sunset over Barelang Bridge, there is plenty for you to be in awe of.

How do you get to the port?
The Batam Centre ferry terminal faces the Singapore Strait on the north coast of the island. Travelling around will not be a problem as the island is an emerging transport hub. The terminal is just a twenty minute drive from the Airport and Nagoya Town. The ferry terminal itself is not short of facilities, with it containing a large mall, supermarket and a number of food outlets.

What ferry services are available?
The centre port services one other terminal, the HarbourFront Centre in Singapore. There are thirty six daily sailings with three different operators, Sindo Ferry, Batam Fast Ferry and Majestic Fast Ferry. The duration time for the sailings are around one hour.

Tanah Merah Guide

Located in the east of Singapore, Tanah Merah is made up of largely private residential properties, country clubs, and some light industrial parks. When land reclamation works began in the early 1970s, most of the coastal hills were levelled and dumped into the sea to create the present East Coast and the East Coast Parkway was constructed almost completely on reclaimed land. The location of Tanah Merah Kechil cliff is where Temasek Primary School now stands and it is possible to see where the hills abruptly end at the junction of Bedok South Avenue 3 and Upper East Coast Road at one end, and New Upper Changi Road at the other end.

Tanah Merah is a Malay phrase that translates into "red soil". Tanah Merah was once a hilly area with two prominent cliffs: Tanah Merah Besar, a large cliff, and Tanah Merah Kechil, a small cliff. The roads leading to the cliffs were named Tanah Merah Besar Road and Tanah Merah Kechil Road respectively. The names remain today.

The area is also home to the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal with regular services to the Indonesian Riau Islands.
