The Italian city and port of Bari lies on the Adriatic Sea coasty and is the capital of the Italian region of Puglia. The city is not particularly well known as a tourist destination although there are a few sights of interest and is conveniently located for visitors to use it as a base from which to explore the surrounding area. The city's historic centre is located on a headland that protrudes into the Adriatic Sea.
