Blubber Bay is a tiny settlement on the northern tip of Texada Island, a narrow isle that rises on sheer cliffs from the waters of the Georgia Strait in the British Columbia region of Canada. There are eight daily sailings to Powell River from the port, all offered by BC Ferries.
What is there to do at Blubber Bay?
As you may have guessed from the destination’s name, Blubber Bay used to be a prevalent whaling community. Now it’s a prime location for whale watching and scuba diving.
How do you get to the terminal?
The bay is just five miles north along Blubber Bay Road from Van Anda. If you travel further south you will eventually reach the west coast town of Gillies Bay and the small airport that hosts flights to and from the city of Vancouver. The terminal is small and somewhat isolated but is still busy and is only reachable by one road.
What services run from Blubber Bay?
A daily BC Ferries service makes the short hop across the strait to the picturesque city of Powell River on the Canadian mainland. Passengers aboard one of these ships might be lucky enough to catch sight of a surfacing Killer Whale, one of the rarer species of marine life that thrive in the deep waters of the strait. There are eight daily crossings that take just thirty five minutes to complete.
